Youth Golf

Knowing well that the youth of today are the golfers and champions of tomorrow, and San Jose Country Club is unique in its dedication to youth development and golf instruction.

The Club's goal is to provide programs for various age and skill levels so that youth enjoy the game and are given a chance to excel in playing the game.

San Jose Country Club offers three distinct junior programs starting with our beginning junior program which is call "Acorns". The Acorn junior golf camp is held two weeks a year during the summer and is designed to introduce the golfer (ages 17-under) to the basic fundamentals of the game. The Acorn camps theme is "FuN"! We spend two hours each day practicing and learning golf and the next two hours at the clubs swimming pool.

Our second program, created by Director of Instruction, Bill Johnson, is "Team Johnson", a unique Junior Development Program. Any junior golfer who has a desire to improve would benefit greatly by participating in this program. All "Team Johnson" participants receive both private and group coaching by Bill Johnson, and his staff, observed practice and on course play, encouragement and incentive to advance to the next level. This program is supported by Nike and all team members receive Nike shirts, hats, golf balls, gloves and other products. Nike also offers all equipment to "Team Johnson" members at significantly reduced prices.

"Team Johnson" is structured as follows: Each participant will meet with Bill Johnson and his staff once a week for two hours during the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September (a six month commitment) and will be placed into one of four groups depending on their ability. There are four levels, Level 1: Introductory, Level 2: Game Development, Level 3: Tournament Preparation and Level 4: College Preparation. In order to advance through the levels, each junior golfer must pass both knowledge and playing ability tests.

San Jose Country Club also participates in the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers. Practice for league competition begins the first Thursday of May and matches typically start the last Saturday of May and continue through first week of August. This team is competes locally against other junior golf teams.
