Youth Golf

Knowing well that the youth of today are the golfers and champions of tomorrow, and San Jose Country Club is unique in its dedication to youth development and golf instruction.

The Club's goal is to provide programs for various age and skill levels so that youth enjoy the game and are given a chance to excel in playing the game.

Two golf camps are held in the summer for our "Acorn" (beginning) juniors. Designed to introduce new junior golfers to the game of golf, Junior Golf "Acorn" Summer Camp sessions include 2 hours of golf instruction and swimming at the Pool. These camps are usually fully subscribed, and many of the summer camp youth move to the next level program, the "Oak."

The Junior Golf "Oak" Development Program is a more individualized and focused program for juniors aged 12 - 16, who are committed to to pursuing golf excellence at a competitive level and seek regular instruction, physical and mental training, and personal support.

This program is held one day per week May through December. Bill Johnson, Director of Instruction & PGA Member, and Don Allio, Assistant Professional & PGA Member, provide each junior instruction based on ability. All aspects of the game are covered, including how to practice, etiquette, rules, short game, long game, scoring, tournament play and tournament preparation. Video analysis is used and juniors will be given tournament assistance with respect to applications and car pooling. This program is the ideal way to prepare for the high school golf team!

These programs are available to children and grandchildren of members and Registration begins March 31st of each year. San Jose Country Club also participates in the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers. Practice for League competition begins the first Thursday of May and matches typically start the last Saturday of May. Junior players wishing to participate must complete three, 18 hole-qualifying rounds during the month of May. These qualifying rounds must be played with the team during practices on Thursdays and Saturdays. The low eight cumulative scores will play in the first match.

If a player does not make the first low eight, he/she will still be an important part of the team and will play in all home matches and every Thursday at practice. Don Allio will coach the team with the assistance of Mr. Leo Hermoso. For details, contact Don Allio in the golf shop (408) 258-3636 or via email: don.allio@gmail.com.
